🪴 The origin of the name "Bouma Roots"

Bouma Bouma means baobab in Duala language, spoken on the coasts of Cameroon.

Roots Roots, in English, means roots — a tribute to the strength of origins and the spirit of the Back to the Roots movement of the 60s-70s, which invited African diasporas to reconnect with their roots to rebuild and shine.

🌳 Why the baobab?

The baobab, a thousand-year-old African tree, is a symbol of resilience, memory and transmission.

It is both a refuge, a place of knowledge and a rallying point for communities.

This is the symbolism that Bouma Roots carries in the digital space:

  • Create a common digital place, solid and welcoming;
  • Store African collective memory in extensions that resemble it;
  • Serve as a pillar for a sovereign, multilingual and inclusive Internet.

Just as the baobab shelters life under its branches, Bouma Roots shelters African digital identities under its domains.

Its deep roots represent the connections between African cultures and languages.

Its robust trunk embodies the technical infrastructure of the DNS registry.

Its branches symbolize the millions of domains and services that will result from it.

Thus, each domain created will be a digital root that connects the continent and its diaspora.

🧭 The Bouma Roots ecosystem

Bouma Roots is not just an ICANN file. It is a complete digital infrastructure, which will include:

  • Domain name registration (via partner registrars like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.).
  • Premium Services: security, digital identity, certificates, professional tools.
  • Bouma Matrix OS: inclusion platform serving the digital economy with integration via partners through APIs and local payment methods, SaaS solutions for Pan-African operators of all sizes: creators, SMEs, large companies.
  • Community programs: diasporic ambassadors, training, educational content.

This architecture will enable Africa and its diaspora to be permanently anchored in the global governance of the Internet.

Our Manifesto

Bouma Roots is the Pan-African digital Home.

A place where we name what we are, where we protect what we build, where we share what we create, a place that belongs to us.

In a world where Pan-African identities are often eclipsed, we choose to root our digital presence in what we hold most precious: our culture, our heritage and our collective vision.

From Kingston to Casablanca, from Rio to Nouakchott, from Cape Town to Paris, from New York to Abidjan, the Pan-African digital community resonates wherever Africa and its diasporas are found.

We are all Bouma Roots.

Together, let's write a new page in Pan-African digital history.

Our Vision

We are the architects of a new Internet territory: Pan-African web extensions that celebrate the cultural, linguistic and diasporic diversity of the continent.

Bouma Roots erects the African digital baobab: a multilingual, federating, sovereign and inclusive ecosystem where the peoples of the continent and the diaspora take root to rise higher.

Together, let's plant the roots of an Internet in our image.

Our Mission

Our mission is rooted in two words: Ubuntu "I am because we are", and Sankofa "go back and get what you forgot".

Bouma Roots aims to reduce the digital and cultural divide by providing Africa and its diasporas with a digital space based on Pan-African values.

This infrastructure is the place where innovation feeds on memory and where each name becomes a voice to offer continental African and Afro-descendant communities:

  • An authentic digital space through authentic community spaces.
  • A structured digital presence accessible everywhere at fair cost.
  • Secure and innovative services, aligned with international standards (ICANN, ISO).
  • A sustainable Pan-African ecosystem federating businesses, creators, institutions and diasporas.

Our Values

Bouma Roots' values are the compass that guides each of our actions. They guide the design of our Pan-African and multilingual DNS infrastructure, and ensure the consistency of our mission over time.

🟠

Accessibility — An Internet within everyone's reach

Bouma Roots is committed to removing economic and technical barriers to entry into African digital.

Our infrastructure covers several geographical and linguistic zones, with fair pricing aligned with the realities of the continent.

Thanks to the native integration of local payment methods (notably Mobile Money), everyone — wherever they are — can access African domain names and digital services.

👉 A truly Pan-African Internet begins with access for all.

🔵

Excellence — Trust as a digital foundation

Trust is the currency of the digital economy. Bouma Roots is committed to offering infrastructure that meets the most demanding international standards (ICANN, DNSSEC, ISO).

Each extension is designed to be a robust digital asset, worthy of the Pan-African vision we carry.

👉 Technical excellence strengthens African digital sovereignty.

🟢

Inclusion — Diversity as strength

Africa and its diasporas form a kaleidoscope of cultures, languages and histories.

Our approach is multilingual and intercultural by design, so that each community can interact in its language and according to its codes.

Bouma Roots is a common digital space, designed to resonate with all African identities and federate beyond borders.

👉 Inclusion is not an option, it is our foundation.

🟣

Impact — Connecting roots and the future

Bouma Roots goes beyond economic performance: we are building the Pan-African Digital Home.

Our Internet extensions embody African cultures and aspirations, while reducing the digital and cultural divide from within.

Each domain becomes a digital root that connects the continent to its diaspora, stimulates creation, the circulation of knowledge and innovation.

👉 Together, let's germinate a sustainable digital ecosystem.
